Friday Night Dance Party with The SEVEN Band
Last weeks introductory show to The SEVEN Band at Broken Goblet Brewery made such an impression on me, I had to take the opportunity to see them again this weekend at Copper’s Riverview, one of their mainstay venues they regularly perform at. (The full photo set from the show can be found here.)
The band took the stage and keyboardist Danny O’Neill began the music, playing the open keys of Scenes from an Italian Restaurant, a Billy Joel classic off the hit album The Stranger. Already I knew this night was going to be a completely different show from last week’s, different crowd, different vibe, and a band that knows how to cater to many different audiences.
The band’s first song showcased the father and son duo of CJ and Chris O’Neill on vocals, as well as Mike Zimmerman on saxophone coming front and center. The pairing of Mike on saxophone and Chris Phillips on trumpet really give this band an added layer of depth and dimension that bring their music alive.
It was the next song, Man! I Feel Like A Woman, where lead singer Britney Marie burst onto the stage in spectacular fashion.
For tonight’s crowd, the band started with the hits of the 60’s and early 70’s. Chris and Britney became Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell with Ain’t No Mountain High Enough, which brought the crowd front and center. With the dancefloor now full, the band, feeding off the energy, went into a five song medley consisting of:
Build Me Up Buttercup - The Foundations
I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch) - The Four Tops
Soul Man - Sam & Dave
Dancing in the Street - Martha Reeves & The Vandellas
Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I’m Yours) - Stevie Wonder
Now it wouldn’t be a true dance party without the Bee Gees hit Staying Alive. The dancing isn’t only contained to the audience though, as Britney Marie turns every available inch of open stage to her own personal dancefloor. She brings every song alive with high kicks, low twerks, spins, twirls and in this song’s case, the classic “Tony Manero” finger pointing which helped make John Travolta famous.
The first set closed with Lady Marmalade, the Patti LaBelle hit remade with a modern flair for the movie Moulin Rouge. After intermission, the trip through the decades brought us closer to the present time with crowd pleasers Shut Up and Dance by Walk The Moon, and back to back Black Eyed Peas songs I’ve Got A Feeling and Let’s Get It Started. From here lead vocals shifted to Danny who took us back to country music, belting out the Luke Bryan hit Country Girl (Shake It For Me).
The SEVEN Band has perfected the art of turning a live music show into a full blown dance extravaganza. The way they speak to and fully engage the crowd, giving the audience a performance they want to see and be a part of is why they’ve been able to do it successfully for so long. Their large catalog of music that they’ve mastered ensures you will get a unique and exciting show every time you see them.
Next up The SEVEN Band joins with Cara Cartney as they bring their Alanis Morissette tribute show, “Jagged Little Pills”, to The Landis Theater in Vineland, NJ, with Shadows of the Night - A Pat Benatar Tribute.
