Vance Joy kicks Off "In Our Own Sweet Time" Tour In Philadelphia

Before visiting 18 other North American cities this winter, Vance Joy kicked off his "In Our Own Sweet Time" tour in Philadelphia this week. The Australian native took to the stage at The Met on February 7th, accompanied by folk pop singer/songwriter Jack Botts and tropical pop lyricist Ben Camden at one of 17 currently sold out shows across the US and Canada.

Following his Australian tour "The Long Way Home" during the fall of 2022, thousands packed out the historical venue to see the lively platinum artist perform fan-favorites including Don't Fade and Riptide this Tuesday. Joy's music is known to be a blend of pop and folk with light-hearted tunes comprised of endearing words of love and passion- so much so that his song Missing Piece was featured in and episode of hit television drama Grey’s Anatomy as Jesse Williams’ character Dr. Avery departed the show in 2015.

Moreover, during his song I'm With You, lucky long-time fan Destinee was proposed to by her boyfriend of 3 1/2 years, Brendan, in a sea of teary-eyed admirers. Before continuing with Catalonia, clutching his ukulele, he congratulated the couple and resumed as the pair watched on in an afterglow that spread through the entire audience. This wasn't the only fan interaction Joy had engaged in throughout the night - it is evident that the former football player enjoys connecting with his fans in real-time.

In true Philadelphia fashion, fans gave the indie pop star a very warm welcome back to the city of brotherly love by starting plenty of booming "E-A-G-L-E-S" chants between each song.  Vance and band seemed to get a kick out of it, stating, "I think we came at the right time.  I hope your team wins on Sunday!" sending the crowd into an excited roar as the Philadelphia Eagles head into Super Bowl LVII against the Kansas City Chiefs on February 12. While the event won't be taking place at Lincoln Financial Field here in America's Garden Capital, Vance is no stranger to the stadium, or the city.

In 2015, the former law student opened for Taylor Swift during her 1989 World Tour where "The Linc" was a stop along the way amongst over 80 other cities across 3 countries.  We first saw Vance come to Philadelphia in 2014 at Festival Pier, just over one year after releasing his debut single From Afar. He returned to perform at The Electric Factory (now known as Franklin Music Hall) in 2016 on his "Fire And The Flood" tour, and again in 2017 for his "Lay It On Me" tour at Union Transfer. He also joined P!NK during her European stadium run in 2019, "Beautiful Trauma", her biggest tour to date.

With a stage name such as “Vance "Joy", he exudes just that. Spreading joy and
positivity anywhere he goes, he has and continues to capture all our hearts while
delivering quality, fun, heartfelt music to people all over the world.

The Met, fully renovated in 2018, has been recognized for its superb acoustics and its modern-yet-classic charm. Full of rich history, this space was initially utilized as a Grand Old Opera House and operated as such since its inception through to 1934. During many renovations over the last century, The Met has served as a movie theater, ballroom, sports venue, mechanic training center, a church, as well as the former recording hall of The Philadelphia Orchestra. Currently, the theater functions as a popular concert hall, boasting the city's largest performance stage and welcoming many best-selling artists such as Madonna, Lizzo, Billie Eilish, Mariah Carey, Meek Mill- the list goes on. The Met can be seen from blocks away as its shining lights gleam down on Broad Street, radiating everything in their path, proving to set the perfect tone for excited concert-goers anxious to see the APRA Award-winning artist, Vance Joy.
